Sled dog racing is a winter dog sport most popular in arctic regions such as Alaska. The sport is a timed competition of teams of sled dogs that pull a sled with the musher standing on the runners. The most famous sled dog racing is the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, which is an annual long-distance sled dog race run in early March from Anchorage to Nome, entirely within the state of Alaska. The sled dog race that I am going to today is the Open North American Championship. Teams from the U.S. and Canada participate in this competition. The event is also broadcasted by the local TV and radio station.
Aside from the sled dog race, there is a small market for local crafts and a fur auction held by Alaska Trappers Association. The items offered in the auction includes wolf hide, wolverine hide, lynx hide, different colored fox hide, lynx skull, wolf skull, various bones and teeth. I participated in the auction and got my friend a special gift from Alaska.
The item I auctioned is a lynx skull. Before I show it, let me show you what a lynx is.
Lynx have a short tail, characteristic tufts of black hair on the tips of their ears, large, padded paws for walking on snow and long whiskers on the face. Lynx is a good climber and swimmer and it feeds almost exclusively on snowshoe hares.

Even though the lynx head looks big, it is mostly meat and fur. The skull is the size of a fist.
